PRF FOR JOINT PAIN IN ATLANTIC BEACH

Say goodbye to stiffness and hello to active living again.

If everyday activities are becoming uncomfortable, you don’t have to push through the pain. At Serene, we partner with RegenCen to offer natural regenerative options like PRF and PRP injections that support healing and long-lasting relief in joints and tendons.

What Is PRF? How Does It Work?

PRF is an advanced form of PRP, and both are created from a small sample of your own blood. After a quick draw, the platelets and fibrin are separated in a centrifuge. Platelets deliver powerful growth factors that help repair tissue, while fibrin holds them in place so they can release slowly and support better, longer-lasting healing.

Cortisone injections can offer fast relief, but repeated steroid shots come with unwanted side effects. PRF offers a more natural, regenerative option.

PRF is created from a small sample of your own blood. Once spun in a centrifuge, the platelets and fibrin are separated, then used to support your body’s natural repair process. Platelets contain powerful growth factors, and the fibrin matrix helps keep them at the injection site so they can release slowly and effectively.

These growth factors signal your body to bring in stem cells, which help rebuild healthy tissue, and fibroblasts, which produce collagen for cushioning and elastin for flexibility. PRF also has a natural anti-inflammatory effect and gradually increases circulation to the area, supporting long-term recovery and comfort.

Why PRF Instead of Steroids or Cortisone Shots?

Steroid injections can relieve pain, but they don’t fix the problem—and over time, they can weaken joints and soft tissue. PRF offers:

  • Similar pain relief to cortisone
  • Longer-lasting results
  • No harmful side effects
  • Actual tissue regeneration, not just symptom relief

Unlike cortisone shots, PRF reactivates dormant cells in joints and tendons, recruiting stem cells to the injured area. Research shows PRF works as well as steroids for pain, and lasts longer. But HOW it works is just as important. “PRF actually builds new cartilage in joints and repairs tendinitis with new tissue, which pills and steroids can’t do. It’s true tissue regeneration.”

PRF and PRP for Joints and Mobility: A Step-by-Step Guide

Before treatment

Unlike stem cell therapy, there is very little preparation needed for a PRF or PRP. You will start with a complimentary consultation to make sure regenerative platelet therapy is appropriate for your condition(s). PRF and PRP injections are not advised in joints that have been replaced but we have successfully treated joints that are “bone on bone” – a term often used by orthopedists to describe joints that don’t respond to surgical treatment for arthritis. Your health history will be reviewed, so bring a list of your current medical conditions and medications. And we encourage you to bring reports of any previous X-rays or MRIs to your appointment.

Day of treatment

We can often treat your joint at the same visit. There’s no sedation, no harvesting, and very little discomfort. PRF injections feel similar to a cortisone shot, but instead of steroids, we use your body’s own healing platelets.

Come well-hydrated for an easier blood draw. After collecting a small sample, we process it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets and fibrin, then inject the PRF directly into the injured tissue or joint, often using ultrasound guidance for precision. The fibrin matrix holds the platelets in place so they can slowly release growth factors for longer-lasting relief.

Most visits take 30 to 60 minutes. You can head home right after, with only a few days of taking it easy. Many patients prefer PRF because it’s natural, effective, and a fraction of the cost of stem cell therapy.

After treatment

We will discuss your aftercare and additional activity modifications if necessary. PRF and PRP are noninvasive, so virtually all normal daily activities can resume. We continue to be impressed with the amazing results of PRF – patients almost always come back within a few weeks with much less pain and much more range of motion. Although there is pain relief within a few weeks for most patients, the results are longer-lasting with a series of 3 injections. On average, our patients see pain relief for a year or more and medical research backs that up.
